Characteristics of Prophecy

1. The nature of prophecy is love. 1 Corinthians 13:2; 1 Corinthians 14:1; 1 John 4:12-16

2. Prophecy points to Jesus. Revelation 19:10

3. Prophecy is strengthening, encouraging, and comforting. 1 Corinthians 14:3

4. Prophecy builds/edifies the church. 1 Corinthians 14:4

5. Prophecy is to be tested. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

6. Prophecy never contradicts scripture.

7. Prophecy is for all believers of Jesus. Acts 2:17-18
